Understanding the Importance of Social Media
It is a common misconception that social media isn’t important to business. Here are nine reasons to prove it wrong.
When you decide to start your business, social media may be one of the first places you should explore. However, it’s important to remember that social media is often perceived as an afterthought.
Here are some things to keep in mind as you work on getting your social media to operate at peak efficiency.
1. It Takes Up More Time than You Expect
It might seem like social media engagement is like a 10 second task that only takes up a couple of minutes per day. But, this is far from the truth.
Once you go on Facebook or Twitter, there’s no turning back. You might consider it a nice break and some entertainment, but it is taking up a considerable amount of your time.

Build Your Audience

Everyone wants to build an audience to develop a community around their products. Not just for the love of a product but to ensure you get more value from each follower. With the amount of competition, customer acquisition is becoming harder and your reach, engagement, and brand recognition should be your priority.
Most new bloggers will receive thousands of traffic from the social media site they are building an audience on. These blogs are often setup to take you to a new dimension or genre that you never explored before. It is also a great place to share your story and inspire others to push forward too.
Curate your audience to make sure that you will get some real value out of the social media platform.

Create Content That Matters
Keeping your audience engaged with your content is key to keeping them coming back for more. Social media engagement is an essential element in creating brand loyalty.
You want your audience to see what you’re working on, interact with it, and become emotionally connected with your brand.
Share your content through social media to make it accessible to your audience.

Set Goals
First and foremost, if you don’t know what you’re doing, the best thing you can do is to set social media goals.
When I started blogging, I made a long list of the things I wanted to do on my first month.
For example, I wanted to have 150 Facebook fans and 5,000 Twitter followers.
Then, after I reached those goals, I did some additional research. And then, I used that research to set more goals. And so on and so forth.
However, after a few months, I realized that some of my goals were totally unrealistic. So I set new goals and tried to reach them.
But as time progressed, I kept getting distracted. And then I’d set a new goal and I’d completely forget about the old goals.
Instead, I wanted to set more goals and keep trying to meet them.
This continued for many months.

Engagement trends
We’ve all seen a post that gets very little engagement. How do you improve engagement?
Don’t fall into the trap of putting a small post on your feed. If you have a niche audience it’s very likely they will be interested in your post. If you’re trying to get more followers, don’t push a business message, but instead say something they want to hear.
If you’re making a lot of money on your blog, it’s likely that your audience isn’t interested in this. Therefore, don’t pitch your products and instead have an insightful conversation with your audience.
Don’t Force Too Much
Businesses often think if their audience doesn’t like their Facebook post, then they don’t like their post.
Encourage Interaction
Social media provides two-way communication. A good social media marketing strategy would create a community and help your customers and customers connect with each other. A social media community allows users to comment and post comments. Each comment is like an email. Facebook even provides comments in its news feed and allows users to leave comments.
Consider Facebook groups for instance. Facebook offers a group for photography photographers, or any similar businesses.
The Facebook group is private and it allows users to exchange ideas and promote each other’s services. This creates a network of supporters and also a high level of engagement among members.
Schedule Your Posts Effectively
Make sure that you have set up your schedule right so that you post on the right day and the right time. You want to make sure you write posts, and schedule them, so that you can market efficiently.
Take a Break From Social Media
There are times when you should take a break from social media so you don’t burn out. Sometimes you need to take a break because you get annoyed by people using your content without crediting you. Other times you should take a break because you need to clear your head from the constant noise and Twitter trolls.
Do Not Click On People’s Recent Tweets
Don’t even bother scrolling through people’s recent tweets because you will be bombarded with links and ideas that you are not interested in.
Be Authentic
Be Original
Engage Early
Don’t spam
Make people laugh

Initiate Follow-ups
Promote Your Business
Enhance a Personal Relationship
When social media engagement fails
When you follow someone, and they don’t follow you back.
When you try to get people to visit your website, but they just visit the advertising or affiliate sites that you pay for.
When you try to get people to buy a product or sign up for a newsletter, and they don’t.
Your Target Audience on Facebook
If you’re an author trying to promote a new book, you can try to engage readers by posting great reviews about the book.
